In addition to the internationally-recognised recliner, the collections now include sofas, corner suites, static chairs and pedestal chairs. With all our pieces, the focus is on helping our customers turn their homes into a comfortable haven where they can relax and switch off from the stresses of everyday life.
La-Z-Boy was originally created by two American cousins – Edward M Knabusch and Edwin J Shoemaker, who invented the first recliner in 1928. The pair wanted to create a porch chair which followed the contour of a person’s body and would be comfortable for both sitting up and leaning back.
Using orange crates to come up with a prototype, the cousins invented the reclining mechanism that would sweep the world off its feet.
